Cablevision Optimum TV & DVR Apps
Cablevison - a cable company - set out to reclaim its technology and marketing edge.
Their solution was to expand their cable services across desktop, tablet, smartphones for iOS and Android, and Kindle. With their devices, users could watch, control, and record shows on their TV.

TLDR Overview
Role: Associate User Experience Designer
Team: 2 UX Designers, 3 UI Designers, 1 After Effects Animator, 1 Product Manager
Timeline: 1+ year, parallel design and development tracks
Challenge: Help Cablevision expand its TV/DVR services beyond cable boxes to mobile, tablet, desktop, and web. The scale and parallel tracks required careful coordination and design consistency.
Focus Areas: Audits for design/UX/dev teams, flows, functional specs, wireframes, client presentation decks
Impact: Successfully launched Optimum apps for iPad, iPhone, Kindle, and desktop web. Learned how to design TV experiences across multiple platforms and parallel tracks; Android was still in progress when I left.
My Actions
Worked with a UX Lead and design team on this massive project for over a year and assisted in documenting design decisions, preparing weekly client presentation decks, and designing the apps all running in parallel development tracks.
Created audits for Design, UX, and Dev teams
Designed User Flows, Functional Specs, and Wireframes
The Result
The Optimum apps launched successfully in 2012 across iPad, iPhone, Kindle, and desktop, expanding Cablevision’s service footprint beyond the set-top box.
My Takeaway
I gained deep experience designing for TV experiences across multiple devices and learned how to manage design consistency while working in parallel development tracks at scale.
